You’ll Say “WOW!”

There’s a saying in the world of home renovations:  Quick, Cheap & Good: choose two out of three. We believe you can have all three using our approach to Interior Design. We believe a home should look collected and personal and should reflect the tastes of the homeowners. Our job is to elevate the design and decor of your home. You’ll say “wow.”

We do things differently.

We are unlike other interior designers. Traditional high-end interior design takes months and years, and the best designers generally work with budgets that are uncomfortable, even for people with generous means. And in the end, you may end up living in a home that is gorgeous, but could feel impersonal.

We do things differently. We will quickly, sensitively, and affordably assess your particular needs and priorities, and then take the ball and run with it. Or we can guide you to do the leg work once we have created a general space plan and vision together. But be warned, we won’t compromise on quality and sophistication.

Hugh was a fantastic partner in redesigning my living room. His exquisite taste and capacity to listen deeply to what I wanted helped me shape a vision many steps beyond what I would have come up with on my own. He is also a savvy consignment shopper, and we scored an incredible deal on a beautiful sofa on our first trip out. I feel so lucky to get to work with Hugh!

How We Work

We’ll start with an hour-long consultation and discuss the following things:

  • What was “the story” of your house and its design up until now?

  • What do you want the story of your house to be?

  • What is working right now and what isn’t?

  • What pieces in your home do you love?

  • What pieces bother you or don’t resonate with positivity?

  • Who are the decision makers and what is their decision-making style?

  • How do you want this house to feel?

  • What are the different priorities of the residents of the house?

Then, we’ll decide on scope of work, budget, and timeline. Groman Group Interiors can handle as much or as little of the research and grunt work as you’d like. We charge by the hour and for expenses, but we won’t mark up any of the furniture we purchase for you.

We’ll identify all of your most beloved items and make sure they are part of the design. We’ll purge all of the items in your home that don’t serve, are of poor quality, or just don’t work with the new story of your house we are creating together.

We source most of our furniture from Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and Consignment shops. The San Francisco Bay Area is one of the most amazing places to source the highest quality used furniture in the world. This allows us to find and buy items QUICKLY and MORE AFFORDABLY. Our expertise allows us to identify incredible bargains on quality pieces.

We can move as quickly or gradually as you’d like. This will be an organic process as we purge items and bring new exciting pieces into your home.

We will also help organize and source other key vendors: professional organizing, tradespeople, window treatments, etc.

And finally, we’ll accessorize as needed and desired. Usually, much of the accessorizing comes from items you already own and love, but perhaps haven’t been able to show or highlight in the past.

The initial one our consult is $300. Then we charge $200 an hour moving forward. If this seems high, please understand we are VERY efficient with our time. Additional charges will be incurred for picking up and delivering of furniture items and any other decorating costs.

“I cannot recommend Hugh highly enough. He provided interior design services for my existing house as well as my previous house. His recommendations regarding space planning, colors, furniture layout, and furniture style were invaluable to me. I have an engineering company here in San Francisco, and I work with many of the best architects in the Bay Area—but  when it comes time for my own house, I call Hugh. I suggest you do the same!”
